Characteristics of the Manufacturing Process
The manufacturing process of basic precision ceramic materials remains the same as the process of manufacturing classic ceramics, but there are three big differences in terms of manufacturing technology.

First, whereas classic ceramic materials are made from natural raw materials or milled/refined materials, precision ceramic materials are materials for artificial synthesis, featuring high purity, finer particles, and bigger surface area. Such features make the diffusion of precise materials difficult and increase the possibility of plastic shrinkage.

Second, classic ceramic materials include clay in the mixture of all ingredients, and the clay included adds plasticity during molding, which enables self-molding. Because raw materials for precision ceramics are non-plastic, plasticity is added by using organic matters.
These organic matters form pores in the material and the pores are difficult to remove.

Third, since most precision ceramic materials have high melting points and are chemically stable, the realization of sophisticated properties requires high sintering temperature for manufacturing very delicate materials. Regardless of the aforementioned differences, there are materials and manufacturing technologies designed to ensure the endurance of complicated shapes and under certain environmental conditions, in order to apply materials to special fields. There are also new manufacturing methods, such as injection molding and press forming, as well as special processes newly developed for special fields, such as the combination of ceramic and metal materials, plasma coating, and chemical coating.
